Phelps Hospital is Building a New Serenity Garden

“The history of hospitals and healing places goes back many centuries. At one time, nature was seen as intrinsic to healing, but this important connection was lost by the twentieth century. Now, however, it is being rediscovered, in the form of healing gardens and therapeutic landscapes in healthcare settings.”

— Claire Cooper Marcus and Naomi Sachs

Phelps Hospital is Building a New Serenity Garden, a Garden Devoted to Behavioral Health

Phelps Hospital is building series of therapeutic gardens on our 69 acre campus. Each garden is designed to benefit our patients, staff and community. The next garden in the series will be devoted to Behavioral Health. Access to nature in healthcare settings makes a positive difference to patients, helping to reduce pain and to promote healing. It has also been proven to provide mental health benefits to all patients including those suffering from mental illness and addiction.

Renderings of the New Garden Coming to Phelps in 2025:

Gardens allow us to expand healing outside of the walls of our hospital.

Our therapeutic garden series is called our FARMacy program, which refers to healing through plants and nature. Our FARMacy garden series is supported in its entirety by generous friends, like you, whose support allows us to build spaces that offer our community the restorative and healing benefits of nature. Thank you.

Healing Spaces Make a Difference. Generosity Makes this Possible.
