Hear about the transformation and renewal at Phelps Hospital that allow us to provide leading-edge care close to home.

Join us in helping our community

As a not-for-profit hospital, Phelps relies on the generosity of individuals, organizations in the community and our partners to help us fulfill our mission. Your generous support helps us to introduce new leading-edge technology and procedures.

Your generosity at work

We are grateful to all our supporters for helping us improve the health of our community and sustain an environment of excellence and compassion. Every gift is meaningful. Here are some specific ways you can help Phelps fulfill our mission of improving the health of the community we are privileged to serve. Thank you.

Thomas E. and Alice Marie Hales Caregivers Center
We established the Thomas E. & Alice Marie Hales Caregivers Center at Phelps Hospital thanks to support from our community. The Center opened in September 2023 and provides tools for family caregivers to effectively participate in their loved one’s treatment plan. It features access to a social worker to help caregivers navigate their journey, support groups, and a dedicated respite area with a resource library and refreshments. The Center is located adjacent to the Phelps Riverview Cafe and elevators with easy access to the in-patient hospital wings. Generous donor support funded the construction of this center and will sustain and scale the program over time.

Center for Advanced Procedures, our new Neurosciences Center of Excellence
Strokes are a leading cause of permanent disability, the fifth leading cause of death and one of the most frequent causes of memory loss. Phelps Hospital introduced the highest, most sophisticated standard of care for acute strokes: minimally-invasive Neuro-Endovascular Surgery in 2020. Our new Center for Advanced Procedures, which opened in December 2023 features a bi-plane angiography suite. This allows our clinicians to diagnose and treat the most complex diseases of the central nervous system, head, neck and spine. Prompt intervention with patients experiencing a stroke and other neurological disorders is critical. Donor support allows Phelps to expand these leading-edge services close to home.

Donor support is also funding a new two-year fellowship in Neuroendovascular Surgery. Fellows strengthen medical practice at the institutions they serve and across healthcare. Phelps is grateful for this generous investment in the physician talent pipeline.

Maternal Child Health

A healthy and happy beginning of life starts with the highest quality of care. Our team includes obstetricians, more midwives than any other local hospital, and neonatologists—subspecialists who are experts in caring for newborn and prematurely born infants. Phelps has been recognized as one of the top 10 hospitals for the percentage of mothers exclusively breastfeeding their newborns, and Phelps C-section rates are among the lowest in New York state. Donor support is helping to enhance the transformation underway in our Maternal Child Health Program. These include enhancements to the unit to provide the environment our moms, babies and families deserve.

Donor support is also allowing us to launch a new post-partum program called MOMs (Maternal Health Outcomes) that serves mothers with high-risk health conditions to decrease preventable maternal morbidity and reduce readmissions.

Advanced Cardiovascular Care Fund

Nearly half of U.S. adults have some form of heart disease, and it is the leading cause of death in the U.S. and worldwide. Cardiovascular disease does not discriminate; it affects people of all ages, sexes, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Not everyone shows symptoms. Preventative Care and Early Diagnoses are key to saving lives and prolonging quality of life. Phelps Hospital is expanding and enhancing our Cardiovascular Care program to meet this need. The fund will support advanced cardiovascular imaging, the enhancement of Phelps Cardiovascular facilities and services, education, and integration with other specialties such as obstetrics, oncology, and pediatrics.

Cancer Institute at Phelps Hospital

The Cancer Institute at Phelps includes comprehensive, compassionate care in hematology, radiation oncology and surgery practices, as well as the most advanced imaging, infusion and radiation therapy services. Donor support funds new equipment and procedure areas. Phelps currently seeks donor support to help expand our Health & Wellness Center that features integrative medicine therapies such as reiki, reflexology, gentle touch massage and acupuncture for our cancer patients to complement their care and enhance quality of life.

Phelps FARMacy program
Phelps FARMacy program is a campus-wide therapeutic gardening initiative, with the goal of expanding healing outside of the walls of the hospital by emphasizing healing through plants and nature. The next garden in this growing series will be devoted to Behavioral Health. It will serve the patients for whom we are privileged to care in our inpatient and outpatient Behavioral Health programs.

The program is funded in its entirety thanks to the generosity of our friends in the community.

Behavioral and Mental Health
Phelps Hospital is committed to caring for our community body and mind with dignity and clinical excellence for all.  Inpatient services include units devoted to inpatient psychiatry and substance abuse rehabilitation. Outpatient services include counseling services, alcohol and drug dependency services, home care management services, and a continuing day treatment program (CDT), which is the only program of its kind in Westchester County.

Generous donor support has recently funded an upgrade to our in-patient psychiatry unit. We currently seek funding to enhance our Continuing Day Treatment Program located in Briarcliff Manor. CDT provides psychiatric services to severely and persistently mentally ill adults with the skills and supports necessary to remain in the community and to work toward a more independent level of functioning. Studies show that CDT Programs have been proven effective in promoting recovery by improving quality of life, increasing community engagement, and reducing hospital re-admissions. Support from our community will allow us to:

·         Build an RN Room in the outpatient Behavioral Health Center that will allow patients to receive their medications in the outpatient setting they already visit. Our patients must currently come to Phelps Emergency Department to receive these vital and highly regulated medications. The standard of care now allows them to receive these medications in the outpatient setting under the supervision of psychiatrists and the care of an RN.

·         Add enhancements to the space including an expanded security system to enhance the safety of our patients and team members.
